5 things I stay away from

22. Mai 2017

I’d say that I spend most of my days cheerfully skipping around. This is because I’m painstakingly conscious about what gets into my life and what doesn’t. It’s quite a bit of work, requiring a good dose of mindfulness as well. Don’t get me wrong: my life isn’t made up of rose-colored moments. But I love lightness. And lightness, fragile as it is, wants to be constantly cultivated anew. My motto is:

Say No more in order to say Yes to what’s really important.Click To Tweet

I love me a peaceful noggin, which is why I try to immediately talk through things that create chaos or heaviness up there, in order to resolve them quickly. But only when it’s important to me.

The advantage of getting older is the increase in self-confidence and with that an increased ability to identify and clearly address uncomfortable situations. In my experience, that is. In order to lead a peaceful life, I need to sort it out. To eliminate distractions. To do something that disrupts my conditioning. Here are a few things that I’ve learned to eliminate from my everyday life. It’s astonishing how much peace it brings.

Loud People

Are extremely strenuous for me. Loud people lack tact, trespass boundaries and are generally self-centered. They put on a show, brag and show off with what they have and what they are. Energetically they are a major drain for me, which is why I don’t let loud people into my life. Online or offline. Works pretty well.

Energy Vampires

There are many forms of energy thievery. For example, reading glossies – Yoga or fashion, it doesn’t matter – is often a senseless waste of time. Often, after indulging in this kind of consumption, I feel drained and dull. I’d rather spend my time with a good book that doesn’t jam pack me full of energetic junk, but rather inspires. I also never watch TV. Eliminating that input is incredibly freeing. Sometimes, when friends talk about a show that I’ve never heard of, I feel like I live under a rock. Of course, there are series that I enjoy, but I stream those on my laptop and avoid brain-numbing commercials. And I’m very selective about my social media intake: I limit my time on chosen platforms strictly, as it’s much too precious to be spent there, actually.

Mainstream

There’s nothing worse than following the herd. It’s always been that way for me. I don’t look around much to see what others are up to, as comparisons rob me of my freedom to express myself freely. Maybe we earn more approval if we never challenge things or address them clearly. I couldn’t care less. Freedom is what matters most.

Whiners

There are those who, like the plague, continually try to infect others with their negativity. There’s always something to complain about, nothing is ever as it should be, and the world is full of reasons to whine and lament. In their general dissatisfaction, they put others down so that it’s uncomfortable just being in their presence. Don’t need that in my life.

Calculating Company

Usually, I can smell calculating people from a mile away. But occasionally I still fall for them. It’s a shame when that happens, but I consider it a learning experience. And those who like to manipulate or use two-faced methods to get what they want, I keep at arms-length.

That doesn’t mean that I’m not regularly put to the test…. but that’s what makes life exciting. I want to feel good and so I try to be smart about what and whom I surround myself with.
