Madhavi meets Life // Why I am my own best friend

12. Dezember 2017

I love spending time with myself. I never get bored. I can find humor in all of my quirks and when I put my mind to something, I get it done – no matter the obstacles. I don’t falter, I go for it. While some are still busy doing a rain dance or consulting the oracle, I’ve already reached the finish line. My father dropped dead one morning at 41 years old. I’ve learned not to postpone dreams.

I’ve become my own best friend over the years. I give myself gifts regularly – like some beautiful flowers after a successful workshop. I look after my body. If you love something, you should care for it. This includes good food, positive thoughts and time for spiritual practice. I’m worth it.

I know my story and my mission and I don’t need to explain myself to me. I know when it’s likely to get complicated and when it’s best to back off and leave myself alone. I’m great at comforting myself, and just as good as kicking myself in the ass if I begin to wallow in self-pity.

I love spending time with myself. Just me.

My favorite is travelling alone. I also love going to the movies solo. Or out to eat. I don’t feel lost or lonely when I do these things – rather, I enjoy my own company. Of course, that doesn’t mean that I don’t also love spending time with my family. But I’m generally very picky about the people I surround myself with. The German saying ‘you are the sum of the five people closest to you’ rings true. I am great at looking out for myself and deciding what’s good and what’s poisonous for me. I like my pace and my ideas, and I love to express myself. Without asking for permission.

I believe in myself. Every step I take is well considered – which doesn’t mean there are no missteps. I’m always ready to get tripped up or take a nosedive because I know how important it is to take a risk, no matter the outcome. I love my enthusiasm, well-developed intuition, lightness, discipline and joie de vivre because I know that I worked hard to get here.

I can count on myself. I don’t diss myself, but I’m very able to practice constructive criticism, and always willing to make changes when needed.

I am my own very best friend.
